Come and join us at the new Robert L. Bowles Nature Centre (formally Green Events and Programs) on Saturday March 20, 2021, the first day of Spring for our 'Signs of Spring' workshop. Spring arrives in the northern hemisphere this year at 5:37 A.M. EDT, marked by the vernal equinox.
Award winning writer, artist, photographer and naturalist Bob Bowles will lead us in our discovery of spring signs. Here's what you will learn;
-How to turn winter bird feeders from seeds and suet into a tropical smorgasbord for colourful species arriving from the south.
-Foods and fruits that attract birds
-Which foods not to feed birds
-What kind of bird species will come to feeders for the fruit
-Learn about Great Horned owls, horned larks, downy, hairy and pileated woodpeckers
-Learn about Trumpeter swans and what they do at the beginning of spring
-Learn about male catkins on pussy willows
-Learn about male catkins on trembling aspens and birch, when they first appear and how much they grow
Workshop begins at 1:00 PM. and will finish at 2:30 P.M. Please join us around the bonfire at the end of the field workshop for any questions you may have and to socialize with physical distancing protocols in place. Please bring your snowshoes for walking on the trails. We will supply snowshoes for anyone that does not have a pair.
